would there be any advantage to moving the coil buckets up to run a 6" spring to lift you only 4"? would this add more flex? and is so could you bend the bottom tab on the stock spring bucket straight to move it up to redrill/weld or buy the new ones from the broncograveyard??

Your shocks are what is going to limit your travel on your suspension. I would think that cramming a 6" lift spring in there would stiffen your ride, not give you more flex. If you bend the tab up on the stock spring, what is going to retain your spring? You may end up spitting the spring out. Good luck getting new spring buckets from BGY, last time I tried to get them, they were out of stock and did not know when they were getting any more in.

Texan, in general, no there would be no advantage.

MOST lift springs increase the spring rate as they get taller, any advantage you may get by using the taller spring would most likely be negated by the higher rate.

Good thing I said MOST....

Superflex coils from JBG are one of the exceptions, I run the 5.5" in my 69.

Love em.... far superior to other mfgs coils as far as ride quality goes.

so you think maybe there a possiblity that 6" superflex coil moved up 2" for 4" of lift is still an option for more flex? i have extra coil buckets from my parts 79 f150 i was thinking bending the lower tab, moving it up, redrill/weld and i could also weld on some angle iron to make a bottom tab for it again for extra strength. theres only a $20 price difference so i thought i should check into it. also what do you think about welding a piece of plate on the inside frame rail where the steering box goes? would that just be a waste of time? ill probably run just some 35" bfg muds.

The plate on the side of the frame rail behind the box is a good idea. When I drove over a 4' rock the steering box ripped half way off the frame so I added 3/8 plate and its been fine since. Using thick plate will move the box over slightly so you will loose a bit of steering in one direction than the other unless you have an adjustable drag link.

As for the coils; a 4" will probably flex the same as a 6". But I would think a 6" might be slightly stiffer due to the raise in the center of gravity so maybe not. They do this becuase of body roll being higher up even though you are at 4" its still a 6" coil. Get some photos and ideas from poeple using this superflex coil you want. With a wristed arm or longer arms you will allow the coil to move a lot. Superlift, Rancho, Tough Country are all types of stiff coils you don't want if you are looking for travel and soft ride.
