I recenlty drove my bronco for a 200 mile trip pulling a 17 foot boat, and on every little hill my bronco fell flat on its face, some of these hills I was goign 35 up, I have had almost everything checked out or replaced, new filters, timing, plugs, rotor, fluids, belts.... So my questiosn is, Is there a way to tell if your catalytic converter is clogged? the sound of my exhaust sounds seems to have changed over the last few months and when I was towing the boat I really noticed it. any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

A good indication of cats getting cloged would be a rotten egg or sulfer smell coming out of the tail pipe. If they're real bad you can smell it pretty good, just don't blame the smell on your girlfriend or she may get mad at you for a while.

It is an 84 full size with a straight 6 that has a carb about 150k on it. It does make a funny smell sometimes especailly when coasting and I leave it in gear, it backfires a bit and really smells.

sounds like maybe your carb is putting too much fuel in to the engine. i dont' know alot about carbs but back firing in the exhaust means too much fuel is being dumped into it. and yes this would destroy your cat. on the flip side your cat might still be good and the carb is just chokeing your engine. have it checked out at your local repair shop :)>-
