guys its been a while....i have been enjoying my 71, part time daily driver, BUT getting very frustrated cause I switched my 3 on the tree to a hurst floor shifter(killing my right leg). I am really considering swapping out my stock 3 speed(mated to a 302). I know from reading past posts most guys here really like manual options, ie nv4550 or 3550... I really dont go off roading, so I really would like the ease of a automatic. I am not interested in a new tranny...in fact i a have a friend/mechanic who suggested going to a junkyard and buying a junked c4/c6 and he would rebuild(said it would be a cheap option. he is very capable so i am not concerned about the difficulty. my question is this what would be a better choice the c4 or the c6? an with that answer, would anyone mind giving me some advice on what parts I will need to convert. TY and Happy New Year, btw when this gets completed I'm thinking of installing EFI to my 302, a topic down the road

----C-4 in your case ---

All the EB suppliers have a list on their website or cat. as to what's needed.

Basically, everything fr. the bellhousing to the D-20 adaptor.

Radiator lines & poss. a new radiator.

Poss. carb. & kick-down rod.

Starter

Poss. dr. shaft mods.

Prob. 9-10 MPG aft. the switch

"i think u mentioned once before that the tranny needs extra cooling"

All the factory autos are plumbed for cooler lines runn'n to the radiator.

I'm still try'n to wrap my head 'round your leg hirt'n fr. the shifter..?

RU the 6'4'' guy...?

yep....i even bought an after mkt tilt steering wheel-which helped a little....unless the guy who installed was way off, i'm pretty sure the linkage is on the extreme left side of the tunnel, so the shifter runs literally into my leg. it makes for short trips

"....any suggestions on front seats.?"

High (sitting) seats are horrible as the top of windshield cuts your view. (especially at night) (found myself ducking to see out)

I went with some older Toyota (Cilica, etc.) seats as they sit quite low & it was easy to make mounts fr. angle & flat iron for them.

Very comfortable with headrest & adj. back...lumbar adj. and, smooth slides front to back.

I then put real sheepskins on for comfort yr. around hot or cold..!

My floor shifter jogs right approx. 1 1/2 to 2 inches so my calf touches the FG tunnel cover B/4 my leg hits the shifter. I would assume they all have that "jog" in them..? All in all.., I don't even notice it's there with foot on throttle pedal.

Long legs would be diff. so seats further back would help.., I would think.

Ty-appreciate that, i already have to crouch a little to see out, so lower seats make sense, i will source some toyota celicas...perhaps if i can get them back enough, might eliminate the leg, shifter-cheaper 1st start

Lastly..,

Actually., so many of the small to mid-size import seats (& domestics as well) would work... doesn't have to be the older ones.

Height., comfort., adjustability., & mounting tabs are the key.

I just designed the mounts in my head & built them as low as poss.

**** luck .... B)

Yep.., I really like my I-6 .... they'll run all day @ 4000RPM

70 cruise gets me approx. 3200 RPM ...so I have a lot more umph left for passing, etc.

It really starts breathing good @ 75-80 & has a lot of pull...
