My brother was visiting over Thanksgiving so I took him out in the Bronco. While climbing a pretty good pond bank I heard a bad "snap". Now I can spin my rear driveshaft by hand with both rear wheels on the ground. I'm assuming I sheared the pinion.

Anyway, while I'm at it I want to add a selectable locker and upgrade my bent 28 spline axles to 31 spline.

So I've got a few questions:

1. Other than ARB does anyone make a selectable locker for the 9"?

2. I've heard the ARB can freeze up in cold weather like air brakes. How much of a problem is this?

3. I'd like to buy a complete assembled third member. Who does a good job for a fair price?

4. If I pull my third member to see what all broke, can I still roll the chassis if I leave the axles in?

I would like to know the answeres to #s 1,2, and 3.

#4 is yes. BUT you have to put the axles back in after pulling them out far enough to get the 3rd member out.

#1 - Ox Locker is manually actuated, ARB is air, & I think there is an Electric locker out there.

#2 - Never heard of this problem before. ARB is known for quality products and the people that have them that I know have never had this problem.

#3 - Complete Offroad out of Iowa. http://www.completeoffroad.com Mike Kirkus has some of the best prices and is an absolute pleasure to deal with, he is also an Early Bronco guy. He uses a lot of Yukon parts, but also carries Genuine & Spicer gears. He is much cheaper than Currie or Randy's for a loaded 3rd member $1263 for a 31 spline, ARB loaded pumpkin. Currie you are looking in the neighborhood of $1500-2000 & Randy's doesn't list their prices, but I know when I was searching for my lockers & gears that they were one of the higher priced companies out there, more in line with Currie.

If its open diff (no locker) and you busted an axle shaft you can free spin it by hand. If you can spin it real easy you might be on to someting.

Pull the shafts and 3rd member and see whats goin on. Curious minds wanna know!

The Bronco has factory limited slip. Still haven't had a chance to tear into things yet. I probably will within the next few days now that I know I can still move the vehicle once I have the third member out.

Is the OX Locker available for the 9"? I thought the OX needed a special diff cover which obviously can't be swapped on a 9".

If an electric locker is available, that would be the way to go. However I don't think Eaton covers the 9" application yet. Is there another company that makes one?
