My brake lights keep shorting out, I just redid the rear brakes. Is there anything in there I could have messed up? Other than that nothing has changed. Just blows the fuse every time i hit the brakes.
Check the wiring around the rear frame and leaf springs, especially if you have an add-on trailer harness. I had the same problem, finally found where a wire was shorting out against the leaf on the driver's side. If you're blowing fuses, you have a short, or break i nthe wire making a new pathway to ground. JSM84
YO,check out the connector behind the taillamp on drivers side...these have a bad habit of corrioding up and causing a short circuit...quick question does your dasn lights go out also???what mine was doing was shorting out causing the dash lights and running lights fuse to pop all the time...but you have three connectors in the back...one behind the left taillamp and two behind the back bumper if you have a hitch or one if you don't...i deleted the connectors and butt connected everything stright together....this would be good place to check.... There is nothing electrical in the rear brakes themselves, as mentioned, there is a problem elsewhere with your wiring.
You can do some minnor troubleshooting starting by removing each of the taillight bulbs and the replacing blown fuse, or by unplugging each of the taillight connectors and trying the brake pedal, that may at least tell you which side to start looking for a short in.
