yo KY,

Ensure tailgate is in closed position; try pushing on it @ driver's side.

This is by Ford for 96; same as your year;

Section 01-11: Glass, Frames and Mechanisms

1996 F-150, F-250, F-350, F-Super Duty and Bronco Workshop Manual

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING

See PINPOINT TEST C: POWER TAILGATE WINDOW INOPERATIVE at http://www.thedieselstop.com/faq/9497faq/maint/stj/stj1b012.htm

see Tailgate Switch, Instrument Panel-Mounted Bronco Only at http://www.diesel-dave.com/vehic/manual/stj/stj1b013.htm#extract_220

see Tailgate Window Regulator Control Switch, Tailgate-Mounted at http://www.diesel-dave.com/vehic/manual/stj/stj1b013.htm#extract_216

==========

This looks easier;

"...The Bronco tailgate window circuit is a common (Ford) polarity-reversing circuit with 2 switches. Each switch has its own power feed; the dash switch through the ignition switch (key-on only) and the tailgate key switch from the battery (always hot). The dash switch normally holds both motor wires to ground, and the key switch normally holds the motor wires to the dash switch wires. When either is operated, it sends one of the wires hot, powering the motor (assuming the latch switch is closed). When operated the other way, the polarity is reversed, reversing the motor's direction. Neither switch is a "master" because neither will work if the other is in the opposite position..."

I have cut the wires to the motor in the tailgate to try to direct power the window as the tailgate switch is missing and the dash switch has been removed also, to the motor is a red, yellow, and black....which do I need to provide power to

To update where I'm at, unbolted the regulator, pulled and bench tested the motor....it's working..... So.... If I bypass the tailgate switch, what would be the proper way to wire the dash switch?

Ok bronco gurus! I'm assuming that it doesn't matter but, on the rear window dash switch does it matter which black wire goes where? I'm replacing the switch AND connector as they were both removed from my bronco. I have all other colors matched up, just wanted to make sure about the black ones

Here's an idea as motor may not be grounded rust muck etc. and just to make this easy use one test wire to clip on bolt or inner panel real close to motor and try switch if it works both ways motor is NOT grounded clean up the surfaces and see. this stuff will rot your socks off. whoa begone
