Well after getting some help from you guys I pulled the tank and am going to pick up a new fuel pump Saturday.

Is there a better brand to buy?? I can get a Carter Or Airtex from parts store, any thoughts ?

Thanks Todd,

P.S. Only had to drill out one bolt on skid plate so it was not too bad.

Never heard of Airtex, who are you buying them from ? Generally speaking you get what you pay for. This is really NOT an area where you want to cut corners or try to save a few bux. Buy the best pump you can (unless you enjoy dropping the tank). Something from the dealer wouldn't be a bad idea, they generally last upwards of 10yrs. I've seen those AutoZone pumps go belly-up within a year, the "lifetime" warrantee is nice but you *still* have to drop the damn tank again to treplace it. Not worth the hassle in my book. Buy the best one you can afford.

You might want to consider making a access panel for your sender unit while you are at it. You may never have to use it, but just having it there will tend to keep the sender unit and fuel pump gremlins away :glare: . I did this the last time I needed to get into that area http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12329 . The reason I used a sawzall instead of a cutoff wheel, is the sparks generated by the cutoff wheel. I did it with the tank in place, but I can control a sawzall which is very important since the tank is very close to the deck and you don't want to punch holes in it. You could also do it while the tank is down to prevent having to drop it again the next time you need access.

A good argument for dropping the tank, is that you get to examine the condition of it for possible rust through spots, which unfortunately they are famous for. Even if it doesn't leak now, it may after dropping it since you move it away from the straps, which is where they rust. Be careful with the tank, KEEP IN MIND, IT IS FULL OF FUMES, EVEN WHEN EMPTY and fumes are what ignites into an explosion. I didn't need to do this on mine because I just replaced the tank a year ago and before installing it I removed the oil they put on the surface of new steel tanks and put a thick coat of under coat on it. If you need it, here is a product that I am considering using the next time I have my truck torn apart, just as a preventive method, http://www.por15.com/prodinfo.asp?grp=TS&dept=12.

Just food for thought

Good luck,

:)>-

OOPs forgot the link to tank sealer

great stuff by Seabronc!

From all the FP issues I've seen by non-Motorcraft sources... I go w/ MC parts esp the FP.

Never did find the OEM for Ford on these.
