I have a 90 XLT Bronco, the headlights work fine but the running (parking) lights, dash lights etc. do not work. I have replaced the head light switch and the female connector for the headlight switch. The dash/parking lights WILL come on if you hold the release button for the rod that goes into the headlight switch and slowly pull the rod out, however they do not remain on when the headlights turn on.

It seems like the problem is internal to the switch, but this is the third switch I have tried in the last 3 weeks. Wondering if anyone else had this problem, and what the fix is...Only a matter of time before I get pulled over at night. Thanks.

I'd suggest that the connector to the switch is bad and when you hold the **** it is making contact. Pull the whole thing out where you can plug them together but not attached to the panel. Then you can wiggle the two to see if that is the problem.

Good luck,

That's what I initially thought...but I've replaced that connector. The **** I'm referring to is a small spring loaded button that must be depressed to release the rod from the switch. New switches don't come with this rod, you must use your original one. Only other thing I can replace is this rod...don't see how that would make a difference though.
