What years can I take the components from that will work in my 85? Also, if I get them from another year bronco, will that bronco have to have an in-line 6 engine or will the components work from a v8?
Thanks bill
You will need to stick with components in the range of 80 - 86. There should be an emissions sticker on your radiator support that includes all the functions. Not all functions controlled by the vacuum control valves are for emissions control. At minimum I would re establish the Heat Control valve function as that will give it better start and run characteristics, especially in the winter. Attached is a diagram of an 85 5.8L engine. You can use as many components off a V8 that are the same as the ones on your diagram. The color coded lines are the color of the vacuum lines and each function pretty much uses a different color.
Orange is the heat control valve circuit
Red is main vacuum and those functions feed by it.
Green is the EGR
Yellow is the distributor vacuum advance
White is the feed for things run from the carb ported vacuum
Pink is the thermactor control
blue is the Throttle kicker control
Black is primarily the Evaporative emissions control
OK hope I haven't skipped anything. Collect a sample or two of each VCV in different colors and configurations, (2 port, 3 port, 4 port). The different colors indicate the temperatures that they operate at.
Good luck,
