'73 302 Dipstick/Oil Pan Issue

Hi,

Hey, what do you have to do to get an oil pan with provision for a dipstick at the back? I had a 5.0L and am going back to the old style 302 for my '73 EB. The older block (C8AE-xx) doesn't have a hole in the back to accomodate a dipstick tube.

Does anybody have any info on a source for a "tube adapter" of sort that I can use to tap a Fox body 5.0 pan? I have been told by a couple of mechanics that such a thing exists, but am unable to locate. Any help you could give would be much appreciated. Thanx.

If you are talking about a oil pan with a hole in the side for the dipstick tube to pass thru then call around to all the Bronco junk yards. They will have them.

Thanks Broncoholics, I appreciate the input. I live in Dallas, TX and we don't have very many Bronco sources down here. I don't believe I even ever heard of a Bronco junkyard.....

If you want to keep the 5.0 pan, check your local wreckers for late 60s early 70s

car 289/302. Alot of them had the dipstick in the timing cover.

I am thinking that just about all van pans were in the pan screwed in so if you found one of them youd be all set . Im sure motorsport will sell you one for $150 /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input.

In all actuality, I had already purchased a rear sump pan from Summit that's a complete kit (pan, pick-up, stud, gasket, stick), and am trying to avoid having to send it back. The guy at Summit Racing told me that the tube went into the pan, but he was mistaken.

As to keeping the 5.0 pan, I am selling the engine on Ebay and am going to let the new owner have it. I already have a front pick-up pan and 302 timing cover off my '69 Mustang, problem is I have to use a rear pick-up setup to clear the diferential on the EB.

Just use the timing cover and dipstick from the 'stang motor.
