I am starting to restore a 73 Bronco, it has a 2 barrel 302 with 3 speed manual. I just pulled a 91 5.0L ** and AOD yesterday at the local junk yard's 1/2 of sale. I dissembled the motor completely for inspection and it is in perfect condition, there was NO wear on the cylinders, the chain had about a 1/4" of sloop and the honing pattern is still visible on the cylinder walls. I am contemplating a 347 stroker kit, but have never done one. i live in southern CA and do not now what the machine shop prices are. I am not debating weather to just get new bearings, rings, gaskets, timing chain and oil pump. then stuff a healthy cam and call it done. I am going to run a dual plane intake with 650 demon carb.

The bronco will be a daily driver and have to tow a utility trailer about 4 times a year, dump, baja races etc. I had a 02 wrangler six with auto tow this trailer before pretty easily.

I appreciate your input.

Hi Mr. G.....welcome....!!!

"I appreciate your input."

I don't think you will..... IMHO I'll never understand why folks want to put a "rocket eng." in a short wheel-base trail vehicle...???

A fresh stock 302.., or that fresh stock ** will do everything you need....

And., you & the drive-train will live to tell about it..!!! ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

BTW your experience., condition, mods., & plans for the rest of the veh. aren't mentioned.... Do that in your signature page.., that should help folks here help you........ :-B

well i got my bronco with a bone stock 302 and got a roller cam for a mustang, bought roller lifters an0d installed, noticable difference in power, but not what i wanted, then did the efi swap, seemed to gain some torque from that, but most of all dependability, then got a set of heads ported and polished if i installed them my compression ratio was going to be about 8.0 to 1, so a new set of pistons was going to run about 400 bucks or i could by a 347 kit and freshen up the engine for 900, i opted for the 347, boring cost 20 bucks per hole, the block also need to be notched to clear the rotating assembly, i did it myself the machine shop was only going to charge 75 bucks, the block got cleaned and bored and hot tanked, for 260, plus th cost of gaskets, so 347 for roughly 1300, it gave me so much more torque, the vehicle was a night and day difference, totally worth it, of coarse the power increased to but the torque is where its at in the trails,

moto of the story is if you got the money, do it

That is my whole problem with the bronco tooo short at 92 inches wheel base these rigs are perfect for 33 and under tires might as well buy a heep , my rig is stupid with 38s I need too strech it too about 102 with the dumb 38 tires...That is why I tip down hill and lift up hill even with no top and doors and minimum cage tubing.. I have measured my lift too 4 1/2 with winch and deleting leave springs and its still too much weight too drive nice on the big rocks without tipping, not lifting wheels, just too short for my rocks, I love the strong 302 on the bbq gas that runs while leaned over. BBUT my 102 wheel span yota ripps right up the rock trail and it dont complain!
