Hey guys I have some charging issues with my stock 84 alternator . I took the alternator to local auto store to test it. It tested good. So I decided to buy a nice warner voltage regulator. "thinking maybe that might be the issue." Since the basic charging system is pretty simple, all wires seem to be in good shape. Im not running any amps no extra lights. I have a good deck "alpine" if it matters. I have read about the stock alternator's and them not have enough to charge when people add aux. lights and amps ect. But this alternator is like not even there. I start the truck and put the V-meter on the battery and it slowly drops in volts. till it dies. I put the V-meter on the alternator and the meter jumps around,or doesnt even register any volts. I have a good ground wire going from my battery to engine and the engine to the frame. I dont understand why its not charging the battery at all. It worked good b4 i let the truck sit for a few months. Any sugestions are greatly appreciated.

Try cleaning up the alternator mount including the area between the mounting bracket and the engine. That is where the alternator makes it's ground connection. It sounds like a grounding problem, or a connection from the alternator to the voltage regulator. Make sure all the connections are clean and making solidly.

Good luck,

:)>-

That is a ground issue, It can be a bit of a bitch. Check the area where the alt connects

Also check the ground wire and make sure the connection isn't broken..."that happened to me"
