I would like to replace the complete wiring harness in my 78 bronco with the wiring harness off my 79. Are both harness the same. The only thing i can see is my 78 has cruise control, both are automatic. Does anyone no if anybody makes new complete harness.

Thanks so much.

In addition to the new harnesses miesk mentioned you can also just rewire it with a kit instead of using a prefab harness. I've used both the Wire-Works kit and the one from Painless wiring and they're both excellent kits that are cheaper than a replacement harness. I've done a few Broncos with the kits and I prefer being able to pull out all of the original wiring, PLUS the 30-odd years of accumulated additions that previous owners installed. I also like not having anything extra in there. The factory harness always seems to have about twice as much wiring as you really need because they use the same harness in just about every vehicle regardless of what options package that particular truck did or didn't have so there's always a bunch of unused circuits & connectors.

Having rewired one from scratch using nothing but a dozen big spools of wire I would strongly recommend one of the kits instead. They're very well laid out and labled so stopping for a day or two in the middle of the job will NOT induce a stroke.

But to actually answer the question you asked, sure you can swap in the harness from your 79. The cruise control shouldn't be any problem, there's a good chance the 79' harness will have the cruise wiring in it already. Might not because they did in fact use a couple different harness but there's a lot of overlap between them so you might could get lucky.

The WireWorks kit is nothing less than awesome and (in my opinion at least) it's much better than the Painless kit. There are a lot of things that make the WireWorks kit really great but what I liked best was the fact that each circuit comes in it's own little baggie and the wires are all *individually marked* every 10" or so. The hot wire for the left headlight has "Left headlight: HOT" laser printed on the insulation every 10"-12", the ground wire says "Left headlight: Ground" and so on. EVERY wire is marked like that for it's entire length. All you ever have to do is pull a wire out of the loom and look at it to see what it is and where it's going. If you decide to upgeade later on and add options like shaved door handles and remote poppers to open them just call WireWorks and they'll send out a kit with the circuits you need and they'll custom print whatever you want on the wires for the entire length. It's hard to describe just how easy it is to wire & work on a truck when you're not scratching your head trying to figure out where the green wire with the yellow stripe comes from & is going to and if it's a light green or a medium green or if the stripe is tan or just yellow with grease & dirt rubbed into it. The way the kits is layed out and engineered you can honest-to-God wire your entire truck in a weekend. I kow I must sound like a **** for these guys but I've used three of their kits so far and I'll never wire another project using anything else. If you give them a call they'll send you out a catalog and a bag of wire samples, take a look at them yourself and you'll be hooked.
