Hello All,

First time posting here. I just found this forum and it seam that you all are very knowledgeable and helpful. I hope you can help me with this noob question. (Sorry not pic just yet. I will try to update my auto sig with truck stats when I get a chance).

Also I am a complete idiot when it comes to fixing cars. That was one of the reasons I got he bronco. I thought it would be easy to learn how to fix it.

So far it:

Bronco 1

Me 0.

I have an 88 Bronco with a 351w. When started when cold or warm that RPMs keep jumping up. When driving and letting off on the gas it starts to lurch. When letting off the gas, costing or idling check engine like also comes on. I hooked up an error reader to it and got error code that indicted the O2 and TP sensors had issues. After replacing the O2 sensor that error stopped. Now I am just getting the code for the TP sensor. I went and pickup and new TP sensor and I am having problems replacing it. It looks relatively easy but how do you get underneath the carb to place it. For the life of me I can

Why are you afraid to remove the "CORROBORATOR" It is as easy as it gets as far as engine work. If your afraid of vaccum lines, take pictures so you can have a "map" for the re-install. Also wouldn't hurt to mark all lines with masking tape with matching markings to their locations. Dont be afraid, its easy. Just has to be clean, and need a new gasket.

an 88 is most likely have a throtte housing and not a carb. so it's 4 bolts a couple of ele. plugs and two coolant hoses to remove. that is the easyest way. spay some PB buster on all hardware before removeing.

NOTE:

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR-MOUNTING SCREWS HARD TO REMOVE-SERVICE TIP

Article No. 89-14-7

FORD: 1983-89 CROWN VICTORIA, MUSTANG, TEMPO, THUNDERBIRD 1984-89 ****** 1986-89 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1983-89 CONTINENTAL, COUGAR, GRAND MARQUIS, MARK VII, TOPAZ, TOWN CAR 1984-87 LYNX

MERKUR: 1985-89 ALL MERKUR LINES

LIGHT TRUCK: 1983-89 ALL LIGHT TRUCK LINES

ISSUE: All Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) mounting screws have a "Pozidrive" head. The "Pozidrive" head looks a lot like a Phillips ***** head. Use of a Phillips head screwdriver to remove a "Pozidrive" ***** will normally result in a rounded or damaged ***** head. Many technicians think it is an overtorqued or "frozen" *****. An adhesive was also used as a thread sealant starting with the 1988 model year. This adhesive requires still more effort to loosen and remove the *****.

ACTION: To prevent rounded or damages ***** heads when servicing the TPS mounting screws, technicians should always use a # 2 "Pozidrive" screwdriver.

The 351's went to fuel injection later than the 302's. I think that is what you are saying, aren't you? So therefore the engine in question would still have a carb

Its a penetrating oil like WD-40. As for the gasket, go to your local autoparts store and tell them you need a carb gasket for an '88 Fullsize Ford Bronco with a 351w

So I just talk to the guy that fixes my cars when I brake them.... I mean try to fix them, and he said that the 351w could have up to 4 TP sensor. Could anybody tell me where the other could be hiding. The book I have only talks about 1 and that is the one under the carb. Also, is their an easy way to tell what sensor could be going bad?

Thanks again.

The only thing that I can think of, sensor wise, where there could be four of them is oxygen sensors. I have never heard of multiple Throttle Position sensors like that, but I have been wrong once before. I dont believe that your Bronco would even have 4 oxygen sensors if it were fuel injected.

nope...& w/all respect, ask the mech for a clarification & if he or she says this again, consider another shop; sounds like the type that replaced 3 or 4 PCMs for someone here; he kept replacing PCMs! talk about guessing!
