so i pick up a 90 bronco about 2 weeks ago for $500. no idea if it turns over (seller is a friend of a friend and seems pretty trust worthy, being a sailor and a good 'ole boy). but here is the list of 'known' issues;
torque converter needs installed (came with the truck)
brakes all around
fluid change
hang the gas tank
nothing to major right? espcially having friends that are good mechanics.
we set off to work around 9am on saturday. first thing first, get the wheels on so we can move it to the street. well, we decide to do the gas tank and brakes since its already on jack stands and the tires are off. it takes 3 times installing the rear brakes to get them right. first time had we broke the keeper, so i went and got a kit that had the keeper and springs. we redo the job, and use the new springs. go to put the drums back on, boom....we realize the shoes are backwards. so again back to square one, finally (about 3 hours or so later) brakes are done.
in the time we do the brakes, the gas tank is hung. oops, we crushed the plastic tubing that runs from one rubber hose to another, we get that taken care of and we are back in business.
next on the list, fire her up and make sure she runs. oh ***** the seller lost the keys... so i run out to advance and get a new ignition cylinder on order (there is one in the area, just at another store). come back to where the truck is..."hey man, we have some bad news"..... come to find out the 3 wheels that are supposed to be for the truck are for a chevy...wrong d**n bolt pattern.
off i go again to get 5 matching (and new) wheels and tires. set me back a pretty penny, but if any of you are in the hampton roads area of virginia, check out slick trick performance, great prices.
ok, so that takes a couple hours to get there and back. on the way back, stop by advance to get the ignition, nope not there yet. CRAP!! ok, its cool, head back to the truck. we get back and we are getting ready to drop the tranny for the torque converter. issues there in finding all the bolts holding her up. we are losing day light fast. all we have are floor jacks and jack stands on plywood boards since we are working on muddy ground. my buddie decides to hit a neighbor up for a tranny jack, nope, he just loaned it out. we go back to trying to drop the tranny with no success. we decide to wait for the tranny jack.
well, as that mess is going on, i send someone out to pick up the iginition cylinder, that we cant get out....and im not even going to describe the issues there (i was under the truck f**king with the tranny).
needless to say, in 10 hours, all we got done was the brakes.....
go ahead laugh, i am .
and sorry for the long post.
