I think they might be talking direct bolt in meaning the trim panel will bolt right on the gate I got was brand new and will fit years 80 to 96 . I had to drill the holes for the rear trim panel but that wasnt a big deal . I did read somewhere though that the 78/79 gates are also the same very possible I guess . But any gate in that year range will bolt onto your truck . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

There all the same 1978 to 1996 will fit I did some checking on the net at places that sell new aftermarket parts and the 1978 to 1985 all had same part number and 86 and up had a different one probably because of the holes for the trim panel or an extra bracket on it I have a rust free one that needs a little body work on it because fedex was rough with the shipping but it is rust free and needs a home Ill sell it for $200 plus shipping with all the guts minus the glass and I also have the inner panel for it that is about impossible to get anymore . Heres the best way to do it but kinda expensive http://www.autofab.com/bronco2.htm :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Hey I was wondering if you still had that tailgate and if you do how much would you charge for shipping to Indianapolis 46219?

Thanks Lucien

Swapping (t'gate differences between the years)

Source: by Mike M (MRM) at medicine.wisc.edu

"Amazingly throughout the number of body style changes from '78 through '96, the tailgate remained nearly the same. You can swap tailgates between all of these years taking note of the following:

I've broken down the 3 major changes into their respective years.

78 - 79 Type A

80 - 82 Type B

83 - 96 Type C

If your swapping within the same "type" it's just a direct swap.

If swapping A & B you have to switch the glass and glass support brackets

If swapping B & C you have to switch latches and striker plates

If swapping A & C you have to switch the glass, glass support brackets, latches & striker plates. "
