Well I,m feeling one minute descent and the next like crap. . They set me up another appointmnet for Friday--THE 13TH---I just noticed it when I got home Friday and I ,m gonna try and change it a shot or something to help me eat. . I go in at 2:15 p.m today.

Have not replaced control module yet. I have tinkered with it a little. Plan to run it a lot this week and see if it happens again. If so, that’s my next move. I’ll keep you guys in the loop.

I have had a similar issue with my 78 since about 1987. Didn't die on me much but the thing would crank without starting. I would run to the store and shut it off and com out and it just wouldn't start. Sometimes it would start or try to start right when I was releasing the key. I used to pull the distributer cap and wipe the inside out with my hand and had convinced myself that was the fix. I had a spare module mounted next to the one I was using so I could swap it to confirm that was not the issue. Changed the pickup and the coil and was thinking of replacing the starter relay. What finally seemed to give me a fix was to spray wd-40 in the ignition switch. Because it was random I could only test this when it wouldn't start. In the last three years it is 5 for 5. It may not be related to your issue but it has turned out to be the issue I was having. It is my third string truck and I don't even have it registered any longer but I know what to do if it doesn't start. Best of luck!

Ignition module is the most likely culprit. Same thing happened to my 78 and an 85 E250 van with a straight 6. They would just shut off randomly.

I had that van in high school, having it shut off like that, when you're an inexperienced driver is a bae combo.

I hd the same thing happen on my 78 bronco and 75 F-600 With about 12 ton coming down a hill---got home and yank it and the distributor bot out and put in a point distributor in both of them. Done the same in my other bronco too.

keep tfi away from heat (as oe did not) mount remote for long life nxt time.

on OE Dura Spark II is beddah den petronix. If U do not want to go ford's blue strain relief module use the gm 4 pin in it's place. go fast for less dot com shows the schematic for this hydrid system. Wrks in race cars, off rd trucks, etc. Allows wider spark gap, hotter plugs, coil, etc...

unfortunatly that's 3 different systems (I said ditch 1, the petronix, but it's fine). The DSII is tops/ideal. The TFI is later...
At least 4 prts to ur ele system (components named above). Only 1 is 'ignition'. My suggestion? learn this one AND make it all DSII.

Another place you might want to chek for a short. Is behind the top of the motor block (passenger side) at the NETRAUL SAFETY SWITCH. With the motor moving around can cause a wires to break loose. Happenened to me once. and was hard to find... Also the NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH could be going bad.

Hey guys
Have an issue with my 79 and can not figure it out.
Three times now in the past month I have been driving down the road and my motor cuts off. No power steering, but the radio and head lights still work. There isn’t a funny noise or weird action from the engine before it does this. It will not restart. I have twice left it for 30 minutes and came back and it would turn over and run for a short amount of time. When I had it towed last time they replaced the distributor thinking that was the issue.
They checked the fuel line and it was clear with nothing in the filter.
I can’t keep paying for towing every time I drive it.

Anyone ever had an issue like this??
A guy in Cally makes a RELOCATION kit for module. I went thru @ 6 modules gttg one ta work propetly do NOT but the black one from auto zone or similar. JUNK. Went to ebay n found one made in America. Its still in n working. My 87. Did SAME thing years ago. The ignition switch on column is plastic to *** metal n will come APART. Ive had mine tie strapped for years. But gttg redi to change it. The wipers. Fuel gauge. Pwr windows n radio only work if you pull UP on steering column. 😡.

Nice outcome!

Fair warning on coils:

Aftermarket units are not all created equally, and none as good as factory Ford unit. As a professional, I see a lot of replacement coils fail way too soon, so I've learned over the years...

Motorcraft and NAPA's Echlin brand are the only two aftermarket brands I have a lot of confidence in.

(Motorcraft is aftermarket, but Ford sponsored/supported. NAPA's premium "Echlin" line is not to be confused with their value-based "Proformer" products. Echlin only.)

I think it's the ICM also---Put a motor craft one on----By the way, get it off the distributor and there is a kit that you can install it on the fender area--- a faulty ICM creates all kinds of headaches.
