ive been having alot of problems with the EFI. my fuel pump just got replaced it it jumpeds from low pressure to high pressure and always chokes out my truck. i was in the 4th of july parade today with my car club and it killed over and didnt want to start till i relieved the fuel pressure. i put a new regulator and it still gives me ****. my mechanic friend and president of my club mentioned about converting it to a carb setup. also he mentioned a cummins conversion that i found on www.fordcummins.com .so im just trying to get some ideas. i got the new fuel pump last week from Bronco Graveyard.

I converted the 88 EFI 460 to a carb when i swapped it in my 84 Bronco. Your biggest problem will be dealing with the computer-controlled E40D auto tranny if you have that. Since the fuel injection system runs alot higher pressure than a carb, your stock fuel lines will need to be changed, either converting the motor to a manual fuel pump or installing an electric one with low ressure (5-7 psi). You'll also need to change the intake manifold and distributor to one compatible with a carb. Since my 84 was originally carbed, I din't have to worry about changing the fuel system, and could have left it alone. But with an original ,leaky rusted tank and lines, I replace it all with a 15-gal fuel cell, electric fuel pump, pressure regulator and new, braided steel hoses with -AN fittings. Also installed a fuel pump safety switch that operated the pump only when the motor has oil pressure, so the pump doesn't keep running when the engien is shut off. JSM84

It seems that it would be easier to troubleshoot your EFI system than it would be to convert to a carbed system.

Did you run a fuel pressure test with a fuel pressure guage?

If so, what are your pressures?
