I haven't done much to my 86 since I bought it a couple of years ago, aside from putting some 33' tires under the stock suspension. Been "borrowing" parts from it to keep other rigs running, without completely tearing it down. Today, I removed both doors and hinges to sell to another Broncoholic. Been wanting to do that, and remove the hardtop. Problem there was the rear window was only down about 4 inches, and I removed the battery long ago to keep someone from stealing that item. The P.O. had cut an access hole in the tailgate from the outside to get to the window motor, and covered that with a plate. Neat idea!!! Since I couldn't get the glass to roll down, I removed all 13 bolts from the hardtop, lifted it up, and placed 4x4 blocks between the top and bedsides. That way, I could open the tailgate and lower it carefully onto a sawhorse without breaking the glass. The tailgate is toast due to rust. I removed the taillight lenses, and unbolted the tailgate on both sides. Once I cut loose the straps, the tailgate rested on the sawhorse and rear bumper. The brackets holding it to the body fell right off the tg they were rusted so bad!!! Still deciding whether to fire up the motor again, or pull the axles and put them under my 88 Bronco. The 86 body is badly rusted, and I can see daylight thru the floor from below. the 88 body tub is in pristine condition, so I might put the 86 axles under it and drop in another 460. JSM84
