What is this and do I need it?

Had the bronco for about two months and removing all the smog stuff not quit sure what this is or what it does. any help would be much appreciated. bronco has a 351W 2bbl. was a cali truck .

It looks like an EGR but me peepers arent focusing in on it properly, Do you have another pic

EGR for sure, I have blocked them off before, no problems. Block it off by making a plate that will fit where it attaches to the intake

Do I need it or can I take it off and plug the hole?

Thank you when I take it off will I have to resett the timing?

Naw you shouldnt. But if it isnt runnign all that well than you may want to check it just to be sure it was set properly to begin with.
