im looking to sell my dakota for a truck ive been in love with since i was knee high, the full size bronco

i need something that gets half way decent gas milage (getting 16-17 combined with my dakota and its ok) i do a good bit of back highway driving somewhere around 200-300 miles a week to get to and from the farm where i work

i dont need a big engine im doing just fine with my v6 now

im looking at getting one with a straight 6 what kind of milage can i expect?

ive been looking around and i see that people are getting something like 13 city and 20 highway with their v-8s (302 and 351)

is it worth it for me to get a v8?

well my friend i have a 82 351 4bbl carb with c6 3speed auto andi get like 8MPG. look for one with an OD it helps alot and the EFI engines. i have heard that between the 6 cyl and v8's there isnt much difference in mileage. so i would go for the V8, gotta love that sound

Ya I have never heard of a straight 6 getting better gas mileage than a V8. After all the 300 6 has pistons the same size or close to that of a 460. What ever you end up with just keep it tuned up, keep your tires inflated (haha, got that from Obama) and keep your foot out of it. Thats about all you can do.

Yeah if the rig has had it's routine maintenance you can only hope to get some decent mileage from it. I've got a '95 with the 351W and the 4 speed auto. Around town I can get 12-13mpg, and on the highway cruising around 60mph, I've managed almost 16.5mpg

as the boys have been saying there really isn't much difference in mileage btwn the 351 and the 302

but if you really want to keep the mileage as low as possible i'd look for a 92-96 with the 302 and the E4OD for a tranny

Like the guys were saying about all you can do is keep your foot out of it....Don't get me wrong i love my bronco but you take the good with the bad...I have a 351w with quite a few mods and i get somewhere between 12 and 14 mpgs not bad...But now if i lay the wood to her that drops like a lead weight to about 8 mpgs...(750 Holley) And 3 inch exhuast the sound will turn heads.... I heard the 6 cylinder broncos were really under powered. But i never seen one in person though.

Thats not entirely true. They are torque monsters but at highway speed maybe a bit underpowered

ive been talking to my dad about the 80 he had(the truck that started my love affair) he said he had a 6 with a stick and never had problems with it even driving it in europe wen he was stationed there. he said it did fine on the highway where the speed limit was around 90. he did add though that it probably was under powered with an auto but his gears gave it a good amount of power
