72 came standard with the Ford 9" rear end, Dana 44 front, Dana 20 x-fer case with "T" shift handle, and standard 3-speed. Axles are, I am 99% sure on this one cause I own a 72 myself, the small bearing 28 spline 9" and a 30 spline D44. Both stock with drum brakes.

As for finding this info out, BroncOhio's website http://www.BroncOhio.com has some great information. There is a ton of spec info in their history section, but all EB's prior to 1970 came with the D30 up front and from 70 on came with a D44. All years they had the Ford 9" rear end. The only difference in the rear came in something like 73 or 74 when they started using the 31 splined big bearing 9" as an option rear axle as opposed to the smaller and weaker 28 spline small bearing 9". Power brakes were an option in 76 but front disk brakes came standard in that same year. Some of the dates might be wrong but I am pretty sure they are very close.

The only things I can add to s-bolts post are

ALL early Broncs came with 28 spline rear axles from the factory... 31 and 35 are available as aftermaket pieces...

The dana 20 used in the EB is similiar to but different than the j**ps

if the truck is an auto, it will be a C-4, if manual it is the 3.03 3 spd, both with column shifter.
