i found an early 80's bronco at my local wrecking yard with warn premium hubs. does anyone know if they would fit my '79? the hubs look to be in great shape. also i found a '79 with a 460 in it, a real shame. somebody put alot of love into that bronco. everything but the motor mounts, carb, and exhaust manifolds are there. the previouse owner had it all legal. it has the bar tag on the drivers door jamb. was a nice bronco till someone t-boned him. is this find worth a day pulling that motor for future use or should i just let the crusher have it?

Well a new set of hubs will cost you around $95.00 and they have different part numbers for 78-79 and 80 - 86 so I'd say NO they don't fit.

However, if that engine is good and you have some ideas of upgrading yours, then if the price is right buy it. Around here you can get a good engine around $350.00.

Good luck,

:)>-

I don't know offhand if the hubs will swap but if they're cheap enough it might be worth a shot but ck into it more. As Fred mentioned, if the part #'s are different it's hard to say. On the other hand the salvage yard should have a Hollander's interchange manual and can look it up and tell you for sure.

I agree with his comments on the engine as well. The 460 swap is definitely worth doing, if you can get the engine for a reasonable price then take it. I just pd $400.00 for a rebuilt carb'd 460 from a 80's E350. If it looks like the prev owner put a lot of time & effort into the truck then there's probably a pretty good chance that the engine is well built. If it has the stock intake & carb it'll still be worth getting but if it's got an aluminum intake & a Holley then you may have found something very nice that you can score for small cash.

i'm going back this weekend. i'm just going to remove one hub and try to istall it on the '79 in the yard. if it works i'll buy them. i'll look closer at the 460. i never thought about a motor swap. i'm limited here i california with what i can do to my bronco. since my bronco came stock with a two barrel, and ford didn't offer a four as an option i'm stuck with rebuilt carbs. i know holly makes a smog replacement four, but not a two. i think all my problems would be solved if i could just purchase a brand new carb. if i did swap in a 460 all i would need to be legal is the smog equipment for the year model the 460 came from.
