Vapor lock?

Hi again, more problems on my neck...... My 89 xlt died on me last week when I was driving in the mountains on a very warm Colorado day. It started up again after about 10 min, and a assumed it vapor locked due to heat, altitude, and hard driving. Today, it died again on my way home from work (also a warm day). It took longer to get i started and it kind of started a few times but died after a few secounds. The visual inspection of the fuel filter tells me that it's pretty old, and the fuel pump doesn't lock to new either. A have an EGR on my truck, and the self test tells me something is wrong with the sensor, but that has been fine like it is for a long time. What to do, and what to replace? My "Bronco budget" is pretty low for the moment...../Linus

Unless your gas lines are running close to something real hot, I doubt it is vapor lock. A new filter now and then wouldn't hurt. If that doesn't take care of it, then my next suspect would be a heat sensitive module on the distributor.

I had almost the same problem when my fuel pump was going, the truck would stall out randomly and you'd have to wait around 10 minutes before it would start again. Does the electric fuel pump prime when you try to immedately start it?

I agree with firelt90. My 93 would do the same thing. Went on for over a week before finally throwing a code and tripping the "check engine" light. Turned out to be fuel pump. Good luck and let us know what the problem was.
