its me again. well i finally got the studs on, and now to the next problem. i went to drive it today and as soon as i got it into reverse to get it out of the driveway i heard this loud clicking noise coming from the rear of the truck. when i first got the truck i just thought it was from the studs saddly. upon closer inspection ive realized that the sound appears to be coming from the u-joint closest to the transfercase for the rear axle. also when i looked at it, it appeared to be popping in and out of place. does this mean i need to inspect and maybe replace the u joint or does it mean something else? any help is appreciated.

There should be no movement , or "popping" in this area (only spinning).

While on jack stands, & in neutral, rotate rear wheels by hand...do the same with the dr. shaft. This should make any weak points obvious.

There should be a CV (double U-joint) joint on that end. A little tougher to re-build, but doable.

if there is any movement or noise there is no doubt they are bad and should be replaced and I also don't recommend NAPA joints (similar bad luck) as a good rule if one or more are bad then the rest are close to it as well so do all(3 on rear shaft 2 on front and 1 on each axle) make sure the replacements have grease fittings or you will be doing this again if this turns out not to be the noise you are chasing at least you know they are good and need to be ruled out anyway also check the rear pinion for play have seen them get loose and give some major noise
