I bought an 83 ford bronco with a transmission that is slow to get into gear I have to hit almost 30-35 before it shifts and I changed the transmission filter and the oil replaced all the other filters and it still feels the same. Is it in need of professional care??

I know very little about auto transmissions.

SO that others may help you better, if you know what kind of thrans yuo have post that, if you don't know, then post the letters that are in the steering column PRND21 or whatever it is.

In the mean time, I think trans's of that era used a vacume module screwed into the back of the trans, look for it and make sure that you don't have a vacuum leak there, or up on top where the hose comes from.

Good luck,

joe

Its most likely your modulator valve, there should be a black box on your fire wall. Check the vacuum lines run to it for any leaks, there should be one goin to the box and one goin from the box to the modulator on the trans. If theres not any leaks then the modulator is bad.
