I just picked up a 96 Bronco that has the chrome grill and headlight surrounds/bezels...I would like to swap these out for painted/unpainted ones as I would rather color match or rhino line this stuff and paint or liner material will not adhere very well to the chrome without alot of work...

anyone willing to swap out with me?? The chrome parts are the stock 96 parts, and they are in great condition.

post here, or you can email me at [email protected]

You may not know how easy it is to paint them...

You need 400 grit sandpaper, masking tape, primer, paint and a little bit of time.

1st Sand the chrome till it's good and dull.

2nd clean the area so there isn't any residue from the sanding left.

3rd mask the stuff you don't want painted.

4th prime all of the chrome areas, let dry for a little bit then apply another coat.

5th Spray the color on and let dry a little then apply another coat. Repeat as needed.

If you are color matching to the body color then you will need to wet sand with 2000 grit sandpaper, clean then apply a couple coats of clear coat.

Once all of this has dried for 24 hrs remove the masking tape and you should be done.

You know, I have painted some smaller 'chrome' parts with great success, but with the fact that there is pretty large surface area with the gril and light surrounds, I figured it might be better to go the swapping route....thanks though, I think I will give that a try....

I did the same thing to an old Yukon of mine. I took the parts to a refinisher and he took off the chrome with baking soda as a media. It was so clean and smooth when painted they looked factory!.
