tires on rims

i've read all these topics about what tires will fit with what size lifts... i've got an '89 with 31x10.5 on stock rims, but trying to get bigger tires.. looking at either 32x11.5 or 33x12.5.... the guy at the shop said 32's should fit but he's not sure about the 33's... anyone know would i have to get bigger rims to hold a set of 33's or would they fit on my stock rims? thanks

It is not recommended that 33's be mounted on stock wheels as they normally have 7" rim width. 33's have aminimum rim specification of 8.5". If you mount 33's on a 7" rim it voids the manufacturer warrantee. If you go to http://www.tirerack.com/tires/index.jsp then under "Select tire Size" enter the tire size you want and enter "GO". On the next page select "Proceed to results". Then click on "specs". You will get a list of the manufacturers specifications which includes the minimum ans maximum rim width for the tire.

hey thanks.

it just so happens that i found on ebay a set of 32x11.5 on rims off a '78 bronco just a couple miles down the road. these wheels should fit on my '89, right? also, the tires have good tread but i think they are kind of old cause i've never heard of the brand and couldnt find much when googling it... know anything about the brand Chaparral?

They should fit with sice the bolt pattern is the same. By the way, as far as 33s go I was talking about 33x12.5 tires, a 33x10.5 would fit on a 7 inch stock rim.
