I have a 78 bronco with a 9" skyjacker lift on it and I want to run 49s or 44s. Do I need to trim the fenders or put a body lift on it or both? So it dont rub.

Most likely. The stock truck will handle 35" tires, 44"s will give you an additional 4.5" lift, so you'll need 4.5" clearance.

I use 35" tires as that's what I'm currently running.

With a 9" suspension lift, you will clear the top of the tire, your problem will happen on sharp turns, as depending on the width of the tire your using, and the width of the rim it's on, will most likely rub the tire into the fender/firewall.

Different body dynamic's but same idea, I run a 78 Jimmy with 44"x 18.5" on 14" rims, and 10" suspension lift. I ended up cutting out 4" of fender well, and dumping my inner fenders for clearance.

Good luck, they look awesome when there done..

To run 44's you have a choice of either trimming the wheelwells 4" or so & running something like a Bushwacker flare OR 4" or so of body lift. In order to run the 49's you'll need a combination of larger wheelwells & a body lift. As Jimmy said you can maybe get away without trimming the fenders & quarters but only for everyday street driving, once you get off-road & start compressing the suspension you're gonna wrinkle your sheetmetal (unless of course you either drive VERY slowly & carefully or you want to run some pretty serious bump-stops but where's the fun in that ?)

If it were me I would just run 44's and work with the fenders, but thats only because Im not a fan ofbody lifts.

Little Giant, I would love to see a pic or two of the Bronco with the 9" lift. I have a new-in-box SkyJacker lift kit that I plan to install on my 78 Bronco, just haven't got around to it yet. I currently run 38x12.50 TSl Swampers on the stock suspension. I cut 3" around the front fender opening to allow turning. You should be able to fit 44's with that 9" lift kit and some minor trimming. Heres a pic of mine with a 6" suspention lift and 3" body lift, 44" tires with no trim to the fenders. No rubbing on the fenders, but it does rub the shocks at full turn.

So your 9" is already installed correct??? If so, did you have to changed or adjust the drive shaft?

Yes the lift is already installed. But im still working on the drive shafts problem my old ones were shot completly and I have been unable to find out if the stock ones will work or not I need both. Im going to just buy the rear from Bronco grave yard and just see if it will work or what I have to do and then i'll do the same for the front

Your bronco looks very good, Mine is the same color and looks very similar except without the lift and tires yet... What size tires are those??? I have been asking around and I have heard a few different opinions on the drive shaft situation.... I just recently bought my skyjack 9" from an online company called Top Gun Customz, they install lifts dayly @ their home store... anyways, they told me that the the front drive shaft should be good but the rear shaft would need to be lengthend... I spoke with another shop that does lifts for rough country and they told me that according to a rough country lift chart you need to lenghen both shafts 3"... I have heard other guys say that they have 9" lifts on their broncos and that the front shaft works fine....

I did it on my weekends in the driveway. Kind of getto with the tools that I had to stack enough boards to lift it up enough to install all of it because you need to lift the frame. Keep some big hammers and pry bars just in case, mine was kind of a pain in the ass on taking some parts off. But with the proper tools and mabe some friends it will go pretty good. I only got help a few times from my dad with some of it that needed more hands. Good luck with the lift kit. What size tires are you wanting to run?

With the 9" lift, did you flip the tie rods on the knuckle? Are you using the factory tracbar? Did you raise the attaching point on the axle or use a drop bracket for it?

On my 6" skyjacker kit, with a 3" drop pitman, I made a 4" drop bracket for the tracbar, and it's pretty close to parallel with the draglink.

ur best bet to get the tire out away from ur shock like that is to get a set of offset wheels like mine... im runin 6in lift on my bronco with 39.5x15 it doesnt rub.... but it dont have a lot of flex is the reason im putting 3in body on it...0412091820.jpg
