i have the old thermactor system on my 351 and want to know how if at all possible can i remove it and all associated vacuum lines. i was playing with it last night and noticed that it is plumbed into just about everything, i know cut a plug is not the right way to do it, i have to replace the head and valve cover gaskets and the whole vacuum nightmare really is intimidating, i have done head work before but without all the vacuum lines.

All you need to do to be able to take the Thermactor system out is to eliminate the vacuum line to the Air Bypass Valve and the, (the thing that is attached to the air pump), remove the vacuum line attached to the Air Control Valve, (the thing that has 3 large hoses connected to it). Then remove the air pump, the ACV and attached junk. This would be easier if I had a couple of pictures of your engine because some stuff is arrange differently depending on year and delivery location. One hose goes from the ACV to the Cat, one to the air pump, and one to the heads (probably to a pipe at the back of the engine). It definitely attaches to a check valve and can be pulled off at that point. Then depending on the hardware configuration you may also be able to remove the pipe. Remove the pipe to the CAT and cap off the stub at the exhaust pipe or Cat depending on where it attaches.

Hope that doesn't confuse you, but since I can't see your engine, I have to be a little vague.

Post some pictures of the front and passenger side of the engine and I might be able to help a little more.

Good luck,

:)>-
