i found this in a junkyard today on an 80's mustang and it looked so interesting i had to buy it. it seems like one of those tornado things that they sell but much larger.

please tell me what you think.

i seem to notice a difference but it may be all in my head.

im pretty sure its an air damper, like a muffler for your intake, i doubt its doing anything performance wise for you. If you look at new intake piping they usually have a really long tube that sticks down by of the intake line after the filter. It is for a few things. Its supposed to smooth out air flow and reduce intake noise.

hmmm speaking of air intake noise.

Because I put a home made snorkel on, the air intake is next to my driver's window and I can hear it.

Normally it just sounds like a huge vacuum leak, with the air getting sucked in there. Then when I give it gas it sounds like a carbureted vehicle with a four barrel kicking in, well at least a two barrel :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

At any rate, sometimes (I think when idleing) one can hear within the regular vacuum sound a thin higher pitched whistleing sound. I apologise for not nailing down exactly when I hear it, because I am not really concerned, just curious, and the truck isn't here to take it for a ride to be more specific. I had cleaned my throttle body when I did my TPS a few months back.

SHould I take a look at my IAC, or is it a normal sound?

Haha... asking someone if a sound is normal in an email is as silly as... asking what color am I thinking of. Oh well.

intake noise is normal. Whenever you modify the intake system you will get more noise. This true in going from an airbox to an open filter but more so when you have an intake right next to your window:) as long as the truck is running normally i wouldnt worry about extra intake noises once youve modified things.

I would also say thats an air silencer, everyone used to take those off for performance gains.
