I was doing a search and came across an old thread from about a month ago, seemed related to my issues;

< http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?sho...amp;hl=starting >.

I really don't know how to describe it other than when I go to turn the key, there is no juice to anything. I can turn the key back, let it set for a little bit, try it again, and most of the time, it fires back up. Sometimes, when the key turns, it just won't start, in which case I can walk over to the solenoid, jumper across and works fine.

I have replaced the battery, the starter solenoid (I think that is what it's called), checked connections to battery and connection to starter from solenoid. About a month ago, this occurred and it would not come back on for nothing, but all the accessories were on. I ended up cleaning the battery cables really good and tightened them down, worked fine.

The one thing I don't want it to be, which I think it might be, is the ignition switch. It's a 93, with a 5.8L. Any suggestions or similar issues from others?

Please forgive my ignorance if I miss something obvious, or haven't provided more information.

By ignition switch, if you mean the thing you turn with the key, not likely. The ignition switch is actually located on top of the steering column under the dash and is operated by a push rod from the key. It is adjustable and could either be loose or just on the edge of adjustment so that the contacts make some times and not at others. If you look under the dash on top of the column you will see a block that has a bunch of wires coming out of it. that is the actual ignition switch. It is adjusted by loosening the screws on either end and sliding it up or down the column. I will have to re-post on this since I believe I have the procedure on my other computer.

Another possibility is the adjustment of the neutral safety switch on the transmission.

Be back in a bit after switching computers

Good luck,

:)>-

Right that was what I was meaning. I actually found that thread. Do you think that is about all I have left to look at? I have been through several other threads and nothing new is popping out that I hadn't loooked at. I just don't see that solenoid going bad after only a couple months. Wouldn't it *not* work completely if it was bad?

I wouldn't say that is all. If that adjustment is good, then have someone turn the key to start and measure the voltage on the start relay that has a small red with blue stripe wire on it, (should be 12V). That wire goes directly back to the ignition switch with the exception of passing through the neutral safety switch (auto trany) or clutch switch (standard shift) as well as a couple of connectors. Depending on which one you have it could also be the adjustment or perhaps a bad connection.

Do you have an Anti-Theft system? If so, it could be the culprit also. It has a contact that is in series with the pick line for the start relay.

Good luck,

:)>-
