on the highway my speedo says i am going 65mph and it seems more like it is over 70mph because of the way i am passing cars and such

i have heard of companies setting the speedometer over a few mph in higher speeds but lower just doesn't make anysense

is the calibration just falling off some because it only goes up to 85mph or what?

Nope no lift and 31' tires, it is completely stock as far as i know

Chances are it's just you, but you can always borrow a GPS unit to ck. Now, having said that, something that *none* of the factories like to admit is that OEM speedos can be off by up to 5%. That's the *main* reason most Police Officers give people 10mph or so over the posted limit before stopping them, because we're told in the Academy that someone walking into court and saying "my speedometer wasn't reading correctly so I was travelling 6mph faster than I thought" has a *viable* defense. That's ALSO the same reason why each & EVERY speedometer you'll ever see in a Police Cruiser has the words "Certified Calibration" printed on it. By using a certified Speedo Officers can "clock" vehicles by pacing them and have a legally defensable arguement for making a stop or issuing a citition. Ck it and see but chances are you just *feel* like the speedo is off, but on the other hand if your truck came w/29's and someone slapped 31's on there it'll be off. The only real way to tell is to either have a friend w/a cruiser pace you, ck it w/GPS or have a local speedo shop take a look at it.

can they be recalibrated or do they have to be replaced?

i have been driving for 3 weeks thinking maybe it was just me buts too hard to beleive im passing about 2 cars every 10 seconds by going the speedlimit on a highway

Yes can recalibrate it. When you change tire size you need to recalibrate it. For mechanically linked speedometers you change the gear at the transmission. For speed sensor systems you need to recalibrate the computer.

You drive a 88. It was two plastic gears in the tail housing of the transfer case. You have to remove the drive shaft, ****** and then that housing off of the transfer case. Then you can take then to the dealer and have them order new ones. They have all different ones for 16" tires and all the different trucks they had then so you will have to tell them the COLOR and TOOTH NUMBER. You could just ignore it and when your speedo starts boncing and finnaly dies you cold then replace them. They are plastic, mine died at 196,000 miles in my 1990 F250. My bronco is at 145,000 and still working.

yup im borrowing a gps to check it out, i will probably just let it die i want to see where 65mph and 80mph is because at lower speeds it seems to work fine
