Shock

i have a 93. and it feels like theres no suspension at all. i can feel every little bump in the road. *** holes? oh forget about it....i hit one of those and i my head's liable to go through the roof. can anyone suggest what kind of shock to replace the old ones with? its all stock right now.

I'm in the same boat. I really need new shocks. But if I buy a lift kit it comes with shocks. So, do I tough it out awhile longer and get the lift or what?

I would like to know what everybody thinks are some good/better/best shocks for a stock 88?

being an autoparts guy....

if you want to keep it stock

go KYB Gas-a-just or KYB Monomax (for a few extra bucks, it's well worth the upgrade)

or

go Rancho 5000 or 9000 series if you want to go all out for decent money

and be careful with your springs. I know that most aftermarket companies don't make a stock spring setup for the dual front shock option. But if you have the single shock, Spicer makes a GREAT heavy duty spring.

or go with a lift kit.. obviously rough country or rancho (who also makes great shocks for lifted trucks)

right now im not gonna lift it. im going to be starting school soon and dont have the $. whats the difference between the rancho 5000 and 9000?

*****, Dude you in a pickle, if i were you, i'd take the suspensions off, and buy some..er.... uh..... a few peice of metal, and bolt them together, and see how that lasts, untill i buy some real ones, and then but some new coil springs, and air soft suspension (the best ever i got it) i can hit a semi and not even feel like carstically speaking.

I agree with 404; changed from OEM shocks to KYB Gas-a-just and they were much better than stock.

However, they began to rust due to road salt; contacted company and they said the rust is Not normal but would not honor a return or offer an adjustment.

i put on Gabrieal shocks to replace the old ones and i've been happy ever since...still not an overly smooth ride but most deff an inprovement.

gabriel makes a somewhat sub-par shock, it's more to duplicate OEM than to fit oem and be somewhat improved.

gabriel also manufactures AC Delco shocks, except the premium monotube (540- series) which are supposedly bilsteins, but i have'nt further investigated, since I'm a KYB fan
