"Shift kit"

I'm looking at getting the RV/Towing shift "improver" kit from B&M for my 94. I don't tow anything except the occasional broke down fellow (mainly dodge mini vans for some reason?). I'm not sure how hard it'll shift but firm shifts deffinatly don't bother me. My 94 t-bird shifts into second hard enough to chirp the tires and so does the wifes Crown vic (hey, I've got a bunch of fords!). I've also heard it'll let the tranny "live" longer. Anyone know anything about this or have any suggestions? WOO HOO GO BRONCOZONE!

It's hard to know just how hard it will make the tranny shift until you install it. It'll certainly firm up the shifts & with an RV kit the shift points should stay pretty close to stock. They usually improve the life of the transmission by removing some of the flow restrictions, this results in better oil flow (always a good thing) and the better flow results in firmer shifts. The kits also reduce clutch overlap, when the clutch for 1st is released the clutch for 2nd engages. They usually "overlap meaning when 1st is 50% released 2nd is 50% applied. This produces a lot of the heat that a transmission generates and we all know heat is bad juju for your tranny. By reducing the overlap it not only reduces heat but also firms up the shift. You can also make it shift harder by using Trick Shift fluid, I know it's a bit pricey but it *does* work as advertised and if you're running an aux cooler & filter your fluid should last plenty long (you should be replacing it every 30K or so anyways)

My 2 cents: First, I would buy the Banks Trans Command for your E4OD. I put one in my F350 and WOW, what a difference. I firmed up the shifts when it needed it but still left the trans great for normal driving. Check with them to see if they have an application for your ride. Here is the info on these:
