I was going over miesk's page, roaming through the SAS section looking for detailed info on what/why/how to do it. And it just clicked. I never understood how it was done or what I'd need.

From what I understand, I'd need new radius arms, brackets for said radius arms, brake lines, a new/rebuilt axle, new coils/shocks, and all the needed bearings/bushings.

Now, looking at JBG, a kit would be in the area of $1700. Ouch. But if I peice it all together from different sources, like Cage Offroad and the like, it'd drop the price considerably. And I'd have to find someone who can weld, knows how to do this, and would lend a hand and teach me to do it. Or a proffessional shop, but I think an SAS would be kinda off their list, and pricy to boot.

I'd like some advice on hardware and where to shop around from. It's gonna be a long process, and I'm expecting (not that I'm hoping to, but for time's sake) on having to rebuild the axle (to save a few bucks, I hope) and having to wait for our schedules to match up so we can put it all together.

I apologize for the redundency, but the searches in either of the forums always net me "check meisk's site" or pictures with only a little "this is how it's done."

There is some info in one of the pinned topics at the beginning of this forum, should explain most of what you need for the SAS or Solid Axle Swap (look under Solid Axle Conversion). You will have to decide whether to use coils or leafs, depending on the axle. I chose to use a Dana 60 front with leafs, and it was super easy compared to the coils and radius arms for a Dana 44 or D60. My advice is to search for a donor axle with all or most of the hardware you need for the SAS, so you don't have to go around to severeal places pieceing things together. I also found some good info on the SAS over at fullsizebronco.com, prolly the most comprehensive site with a whole forum section devoted to the SAS. I also had to read over some of the "stickies" several times to fully comprehend what I needed, and even talked to some folks that have already done the swap. I was lucky enough to see the same D60 leaf swap on a local Bronco or two and get the measurements I needed. JSM84
