I installed a mechanical psi gauge in my truck this weekend, and have recorded some of my results. I know they're low and I want to know what type of shape I'm in. I plan on using the truck for some trail riding and I don't want to be stuck out on the trails... I also don't want to have to get a new motor either.
idling in drive 700 rpm +/-6 psi
idling in park 800 rpm +/-7 psi
running 1k rpm +/-10 psi
running 1.5k rpm +/-13 psi
running 2k rpm +/-25 psi
running 2.5k rpm +/-30 psi
I know its a hard to get to the oil pump and it involves a bit of work, but I am probably going to try and change it out. I would also like to clean out the oil returns as they are probably clogged, but I don't know how much work it is to get to them. What I'd like to know before I get to working on this, is should I do it, how hard is it to get to the oil returns and clean them? And is my engine doomed, or with some cleaning will it get back to holding the correct PSI that I need?
