previous owner had it done on mine they installed a fused harness between switch and truck harness

Yeah, I had the same "fix" on my '95. I think I paid around $18 for the replacement switch that screws into the MC and plugs right into the original harness. If the original switch was a leaker, I don't see how a new plug-in harness would solve the problem. Besides, who wants brake fluid leaking in the engine compartment?

I just fixed the same problem of cruise control failure on my ‘96 EB Bronco by removing the factory recall harness and fuse assy and installing a new “Standard Motor Products SMPCCR1 Cruise Control Switch” from Amazon. It’s a direct plug-in replacement, exact fit, easy install that fixed my cruise problem.
