Hey, I recently learned that my 1984 2.8L BII is fried. Bad rings and 4.0 quarts/week oil leak. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> However, I have decided to Rebuild.

I know, its better if you slam a V8 in it, but this is the plan, Tell me what you think:

Rebuild completely

Rip out computer-carb. crap.

Take carb., intake manifold, and distributor from '78 mustang, and slam into the BII.

Would this give me any more umph! than what its got now???

Would this even work. Any mods or suggestions would be great.

Thanks :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

It sounds to me that if you just rebuild or drop in a long block, and leave the EFI, you will get a lot more UMPH than you now have. Maybe a set of new injectors and upgrading the ignition system would be nice.

Why do you want to get rid of the EFI system?

Good luck,

:)>-

yeah, a different motor would be the best thing, hands down. the 2.9 is the result of the 2.8's failures, what with the siamesed exhaust ports and other such problems that ford tried to skimp on.

you could simply go with a 2.9, finding the ecm, harness, and sensors (not TOO hard)

or you could go with a 5.0 or 5.8 carb'd. the only issues are the firewall (hammer fix) headers, and getting rid of the ac/heater box. and finding a tranny

or something crazy like an '03 4.0 SOHC, but that would require major hunting and $$, not to mention fabrication. the former 2 suggestions are easy and relatively cheap.

best bet is 2.9, they're easy to mess with and are reliable enough (long as you don't overheat). it puts up with my punishment....

as per your questions, the carb can be made to fit, but the distrubutor and manifold are totally different. the ford v6 is not and never will be a "chop block" like chevy and dodge. they're independent engines.

also, the 2.8 is carburated with electronic spark advance.
