I have a 92 Bronco with a 5.8 with 240k what would be the best option for the money to rebuild the motor or buy a crate motor. The truck runs fine but it lacks the power that it should have.

we were just discussing this in another thread. engine rebuild is on my list but after listening to yardape i would like to hear more about the cost involved for a crate and installation. hopefully someone will chime in.

i'm not worried about the know how part, i know i could do the actual rebuilding part easy enough. the problem for myself and probably others is it's a time and space issue. i just don't have the room to pull it. and i don't have the time to run around to machine shops to have everything done.

would i like to? **** yes but, it's not even an option for me at least. this is my daily driver still. i don't have a back up vehicle thats available for long runs to machine shops, errands and such.

ultimately what i would love to do is get this done. pick up a block somewhere down the line and build a bad ass engine as a project, taking my own sweet time to do it. all the while stll having my bronco available as my daily driver. until that day i have to do it this way. i'm sure i'm not alone on this.

Not to mention the performance. You can pay for any amount of horsepower that you want. Proven with dyno specs. You rebuild yourself and you are guessing what parts will work the best with each other, Crate this is done for you.

I was going to rebuild my 302 but rebuilding a motor is way to expensive for the power I wanted. if you want more power and you want it cheap and somewhat easy I personally would say drop a 400 or a 460. that's what I'm working on. But if you just want a decent amount of power upgrade you could simply bore it out. new pistons, rods, valves, lifters, springs, and a new hi torque cam. but just to let you know I bought my 460 for $300 and the cost I estimated for my 302 was above a 1,000

good luck
