rear window

ok i do not know what the problem is with my rear window, at first i thought my rear window wouldnt roll up because my motor went, so i first checked the fuses and then went out and bought a new motor and still nothing, then i bought a new rear window switch and still nothing i need some help guys

Sorry you wasted so much money shotgunning the problem. It is always less expensive to troubleshoot the problem before spending your hard earned money . One of the single most common problems witha rear window is the safety switch in the driver side latch. A lot of people end up bypassing it, as I have for several good reasons.

What you need to do is to get a voltage meter and probe the wires going to it while some one operates one or both of the switches. The Black with white stripe wire should be hot at all times it isa the power source for the tailgate key switch. If you are operating the switch on the tail gate, then the other two wires on that switch are used as ground return back thru the dash switch. If you operate the dash switch, then one wire feeds 12V to the motor while the other acts as a ground return and vice versa for the other direction.

Also it would be helpful if you include the truck year and some of it's other vital statistics in your signature. That will aid in a better guess on our part .

Before you go doing all that jazz just get some electrical tape and roll it around the pin on the drivers side that the latch locks onto. When the vehicle is brand new it has plastic on it that holds the switch inside the latch tight. After time as I learned on my Bronc that plastic ceases to exist. A little electrical tape say about 6 or 7 wraps should hold the latch tight and allow you to roll up and down, if this does not work then feel free to grab your multimeter and go to town

Inside tailgate inside driver side latch thats why you have to add tape to make it latch correctly

the window worked when i bought the truck but then it stopped working.

starting at the very beginning make sure the tailgate is firmly slammed, that has been the only problem for me, I'm going to check the latch to see if I still have plastic or if it has already been re-engineered.

Thanks fellas. I have been having issues with my back window. The latch switch was the culprit. Bypassing the switch and the window works great. Thanks, you guys know your stuff.

have you checked the connection? go to wal-mart or some auto parts store, and buy a $2-$5 tool to check the connection.

my rear window does roll up but its stops about a inch short, it started that when i went out to my ranch and there was a lot of dirt. any help?
