Radius Arm Bushings

Hi Guys!

Does anyone ever installed new bushings for the Radius Arms? Without actually removing the front part of the arms and doing it by removing the fasteners from the frame at the back end, where the bushings are located? :-"

A come-along is a sort of hand operated winching tool. Looks something like this:

A high-lift jack can also be configured to work as come-along but you can only winch the length of the bar (48" or 60" in most cases) before having to disconect and reset it.

Good pic, RK, never seen one with the strap, most have a cable. Hook one end to the radius arm, and the other to the frame on the opposite side. There is an oval hole in the frame forward of the ra bracket that i usually put one hook through (right above the red arrow in my pic). The come-along allows you to pull the arm inward and align the bracket bolts. I have tried pulling the whole axle assembly forward to change the bushings, but it seems to me to be much harder on a 4WD than a 2WD. I just found that it's easier for me to unbolt the bracket, install the bushings on the arm, and bolt the bracket to the frame. Be sure to have the alignment checked after replacing those bushings, as it will often change enough to affect the steering. JSM84

Edit: The come-along is a handy tool to have. Can be used to tighten barbed wire fences, help pull you out of a stuck or secure a broken part on the trail so you can make it home.

mine are real easy due to the fact the my lift kit is removable with about four blots and the 1 and 1/8 inch bolt you have to remove to get the bushling off ... but if you have stock i have done them and the rivits are either ground off or impacted off them bolts are used to reassemble just incase you have to do it again... just a suggestion ... goodluck catch it before it eggs the radius ar hole out then you have to get a whole other bracket...
