Power to Manual Swaps (windows - locks)

Power windows and door locks are a pain and nothing but trouble down the line. My XLT has them but how hard would it be to switch to manual windows and door locks on the driver's and passenger's doors?

I know I would need new interior door panels and the guts but is there any problems other than that I would need to watch for? Anyone tried this?

LOL they already lasted 24 years... how far down the line are you looking?

I seem to recall that Redneck86 spoke of doing this swap, but don't know if he ever got around to doing it.

I haven't seen him around lately, so he may miss this thread, you may want to PM him, and when he returns to the zone he might be able to give you some specific info.

Easiest thing to do would be to get complete doors of an F150 that is the same years as your Bronc' and bolt them on and go.

ive got an 85 with manual doors that im putting doors from an 89 one, i too want to keep the manual stuff. I havent gotten into either of them yet but when i do ill be sure to post what the difference is. I may end up cutting and gutting doors to make it work with what i have.

i asked this same question a few months ago because my 86 has the power windows and your right its a hassle everything on them is broken even the thing that holds them to the door so when you go to push them they fall back in the door haha. anyway pretty much everybody said it would be easier (and cheaper) just to get different doors from a junkyard. i havent done it yet. i just park it out of the rain and that trucks just a weekend warrior anyway so i dont care much if the windows work.

I have complete doors from an 85 with blue interior you could us the panels and gut or bolt the whole doors on $100 plus frieght and if frieght is exspenive than I work with you but I recall doors for an old dodge running me $150 each a year ago. Good luck... Dover Delaware 302-223-6949

Hey man, thanks for the offer, let me see what I can come up with on this end, but this may be an option.

I guess I'm different. I did just the opposite with mine, I went from manual to power. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> The only thing I can say, the body shop where I had my work done, stripped the entire door down to a shell (glass, rubber, vents, window tracks, locks, everything) to do the paint work and it only took him about 20min per door. To do the re-install with power took about the same. It is just a matter of finding someone who knows what they are doing, and donor doors help. It would seem though that if you can find a pair of doors that are manual and the same color already, you would save alot of work. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I switched the power doors on my 84 Bronco with the manual ones from the 88 Bronco, both so I could get by without the added re-wiring and to make it easier to pull them off when I go trail riding. As stated, the easiest thing to do is find another set of doors, and just unplug the power connectors at the bottom of the A-pillar. Soemone had already cut the speaker wire to the doors in an attempt to steal them. One thing I did do to modify the hinges was to cut out the pins, drill out the bushings to 3/8" and add some 3.5" long bolts for a quick-disconnect. It takes some time aligning the doors if you take off the hinges. I think a stock door with glass weighs about 70-75 pounds, so it really helps to have your brother or someone to help hold the door while removing/ installing the pins. JSM84

Funny thing happened to me, I read this thread back when it started. I thought why on earth would this guy even consider this swap? Power windows are awesome. I wanted to swap them into my Bronco, have the doors ready and everything. I drove my son to TKD yesterday in my 84 F150 and he asked me if he could roll don his window. I said sure. We got to taekwondo and parked, I tried rolling it up with my switch, nothing. I couldnt believe it. Then got him to try his switch, nothing. I was ******, instant thought these stupid power doors, I'm putting manuals in. Haha, then it donned on me what I thought to myself before. now i think damn this is a good idea. Haha, just thought I'd share that with you.

p.s. the window is still open, lol havent had time to pull the door panel off.

when i got my 89 f150 everything worked great for a few months, then stuff would intermittently work. now only the drivers window works thankfully the 89bronco i just got for parts has working power windows and locks so i can pull em.

Hey bro, you gave me a real good laugh. Thanks. Heck, I love them but I want this truck to be a weekend warrior, it is not a daily driver. I don't want to have to worry about wet switches or motors giving out (like they have recently) again.

alright well i pulled panels off both my manual doors and power doors and was happy to find that they look identical. I dont think there is any issue with installing manual windows on a power window door. here are the pics so you can decide for yourself.
