im gonna take off my racetrack trim to paint and ill probably keep it off so if oneday i get new quarters and make it nice again it wont be bashed up. if i dont weld in the holes will water get trapped anywhere and cause more rust? id like to just leave them there so it would be easy to put the trim back if i ever decided to.

I don't see where leaving them would be any worse than having the trim on. It might let more water in the holes than when the trim is on, but it should drain unless the drain holes in enclosed areas of the body are plugged, like the bottom of doors. The rear quarter panels should not have any restriction to draining. If the piece of trim in front of the rear wheel well is like an 80 - 86, there is a welded on metal stud near the door instead of a hole.

what would you say a set of 79 racetrack trim is worth? if i could get a little money from it then id probably just weld the holes in... in jc whitney or LMC just the top section of trim is like $650 new its crazy

If you can get it off without dammage, you could offer it on ebay. Considering the condition, clean, no dents, scratches, nice polished chrome ther is no telling what you can get. Especially from someone who is doing a factory restoration. Just saw a 6 piece set of trim for a 53 buick advertised for $825.00. Of course your not a 53 Buick but you probably have a fairly hard to find set of trim. So I'd say put them up on ebay and test the water, if they don't sell the first time, lower price or hold out and readvertise them.

Sorry can't give you a starting figure, but $200 - $300 wouldn't sound outrageous to me if I were doing a factory restoration.
