Hello all,

We are trying to figure out what to do with our 66. It has the original straight 6 motor and it still runs pretty well.

Right now the truck has all the original parts, "motor, trans, transfer case etc". We would like to take it on camping trips

200-300 miles away, but not at 55mph. Can the original motor be rebuilt and beefed up for 65-70 mph driving? Or are we looking

at swapping out the motor? If not a v8, can we swap a v6 into her?

Also, fiance wants to know if we rebuild the 6cyl, can it run an air conditioner for her? lol

Thanks much,

Z-

Hi Z..,

Take a look at my signature....

I kept my 6 over the 5 other V/8 powered rigs.

HOWEVER...speed is only a small part. Everything has to be up to spec.

i.e. tires, brakes, suspension, steering, drive train/gearing, etc.

The 6 can be "hopped-up" for several hundred....but the block should be fresh first.

V/8 can be installed @ of a few thou., depending on who does it. Go to the EB supplier websites to see what's involved/parts needed (V/8)

A/C could work in either but the EB isn't very well insulated or air tight.

If I where too drive the EB 300 miles for normal camping fun I would keep the 6 for the mpg, bully bob is the king of mpg, but super tune will help, and I have seen full ac systems for as low as 1000 yes 1000 plus extras and shipping, clean out the tanks change the filters rebuild the carb or take apart and blow out, adjust valves, changing out the points distributor is a great up grade for reliability, tire size and gearing will change final top speed too.
