That is a common problem with Broncos. Sometimes it can be corrected by installing a new sender unit which is notorious for giving low readings. If you change it do not use Teflon tape on the threads as it depends on the thread contact for a ground connection. You may have used a filter with a poor to bad bypass valve which will also give low readings. I have been running for several years with a low indication and as a result I installed a wet gauge which is more accurate. I also use 20W50 most of the year. Acceptable readings on a wet gauge is approximately 10 LB per 1000 RPM. As long as you have no knocking associated with the low readings you are all right.

Other problem areas could be worn mains or a weak pump.

Good luck,

:)>-

Yeah those Fram ****. I use Purelator. No problems with those so far. Also, does your gauge work? Mine doesn't, plus I leak oil pretty bad from the oil pan (gasket's shot). So I check mine all the time. I know a kid who put an after market oil pressure gauge on his dash and he says it works much better than the stock one.

You might be losing most you oil pressure because of worn bearings. $70 bucks from napa. I'm replacing the main bearing and rod bearing in my 302 right now. It had 136K and ran great, but it changed its own oil, the bearings were down to the brass, or in english they were shot. My oil pressure was pretty bad. I pulled the motor just to clean it up and reseal everything but figure I'd check the bearings. I'd consider replacing them and replace the oil pump with a stock one (Not a High Volume). You can get away with a high volume pump to compensate for the wore bearings if you don't replace them. I pastic gauged the olds bearings and at 136K the mains were at the service limit (0.0024 in) and the rods were passed the limit ( 0.0027 in ).

I heard that another thing to cause this problem is cam bearings going bad? I know I just rebuit my motor, made sure all tolerences were good to go (like Taco Bell's grilled stuffed thingy) and I decided I was just going to stick with 20/50 oil from the get go. Also, if all works like planed, this motor will never see synthetic motor oil. Never liked synthetic, it seems to find the smallest leak's on your motor. But anyways, before I did the motor my oil did the same thing and that's when a buddy told me try 20/50 and the problem cleared up nice and dandly like!
