'91 Bronco, 5.0

when i first start it, it reads between the M and R on normal(factory gauge). usually it stays in that area, but today it dropped to the little red bar(no pressure). no noises, good oil, no smoke, nothing. could it be the gauge, the sending unit, lower main bearings, anything else...it doesn't shut off or do anything out of the normal. it did this one other time. weird thing is, it happened in the exact same spot(same road, same place, same time of day).

anybody else have a problem like this?

Mine runs the same. The sending units have a bad reputation so I put in a wet gauge. It still shows a lower pressure when hot, but never gets to 0 nor does it make noise. I run 20W50 most of the year and someone here came up with the 10 Lb. per 1000 RPM rule of thumb for a hot engine and that is basically what I get when running. At idle the pressure usually shows between 5 and 10 lbs with no noise. Ultimately it is probably due to wear in the engine and pump but I have been running that way for 2 years now.

For some reason whenever i use a fram oil filter my atk reman engine does the same thing . Any idea why?
It might have an effect. Fram oil filters always seem to bring up a lot of discussion about quality. I only know of one organization that claims to have made any extensive testing of oil filters, Fram is not on their favorite list. Filters can cause oil pressure problems, especially on the low side, due to the bypass being open all the time. I don't use Fram any more since I had one fail and nearly cause me serious problems. Right now I have a Purolator Premium but the next one will be a Baldwin which is on that organizations favorite list. So far, I get the same result as above no matter what filter I use.

I have the same problem (if it is a problem) in my everyday driver (94 9C1 Caprice Police Crusier). It starts out with nice pressure when cold but runs a lttle on the low side as it get warm, especially when I stop at a light. It has 187,000 miles, plus all the idle time on the old 5.7 LT1. It is still very very strong (128mph till the computer shuts it down) and I have driven it this way for about the last 75,000 miles. I recon it is just part of getting old. Amazingly, my bronc still has good pressure though.

Edited to add pic of cruiser. Can I show a Chevy here...lol. I wish the bronco had the muscle this thing does. 94 9C1 crusier. ram air, chip and a lot of miles but is VERY STRONG. Shifts into 4th@118mph tops out at 128 before coumputer shuts her down. Had it for the last 5 years. I get a lot of respect on the interstate for some reason... /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
