On my 92 the gas gauge quit last week so I reverted to the odometer method untill I get it taken care of. Drive 300 miles and fill it up. Today when I filled it up and went to push select to reset the OD it didn't do anything. The odometer is still working fine but no trip OD.

Has anybody had this problem before? Is this something I can get at and fix or replace with the instrument panel removed?

Thanks in advance all!

Mike,

I never heard of this ...

Let me offer this first;

by Vincent C - "...The Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module (PSOM) includes the Speedometer, the Odometer, and the Trip Odometer, all of which are electronically controlled by a programmable integrated microprocessor. The microprocessor receives a speed signal input from the Differential Speed Sensor (DSS), and uses a programmed conversion constant to convert the signal to the standard 8000 pulses per mile speed signal output. The PSOM is serviceable only as a unit.

The electric analog speedometer receives it's input from the anti-lock brake sensor. The liquid crystal display (LCD) odometer is a combination trip odometer and total odometer. The total odometer is normally displayed.

To see the trip odometer, press and release the SELECT button on the upper right side of the speedometer. To zero out the trip odometer, press and release the RESET button on the upper left side of the speedometer while the trip odometer is displayed. If the trip odometer is displayed, press and release the SELECT button to return the display to the total odometer value.

The speedometer, containing the trip odometer and total mileage odometer, is serviceable only as a unit.

The speedometer is also used to provide speed signal for correct operation of the vehicle's EEC module and speed control (if so equipped). Because of this, it is VERY IMPORTANT to change the speedometer's internal conversion constant if the size of tires on the vehicle is changed.

Changing the conversion constant to the proper value when the tires are changed will also make sure that the speedometer retains the original factory-set accuracy...."

Now, as a wag, do you think you accidentally started the PSOM Conversion calibration calculation by;

Turning key to RUN while holding down the trip odometer RESET button on the speedometer & then releasing RESET button?

You can try these folks, e mail or call them for their opinion.

dashusa.com

their addy is in that site link.

GL!

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if I ran across something weird. I don't believe that I entered it into the program mode. I did do that about 2 weeks ago after reading about how to change the setting for tire size since my speedo is off. Mine has 6 tries left. The norm for me is to fill it up. Start it and hit select and then reset and go for 300 miles like I stated above.

Guess when I get home I'll be pulling it off and having a look to see what I find behind it. It has to have some kind of a mico switch that the **** hits when pressed.

Leave it to me to have something that the"House" of the bronco forums hasn't seen. Guess I'll get a bike odometer and hook it to the tire with a fiber optic camera monitoring it with a 4" LCD display tapped to the dash. Or maybe I'll go with a heads up display. B)

Mike,

There are always new problems showing up in our dinosaurs (according to a yuppie relative of mine); try calling or e mailing dashusa; they are a ok and maybe can give you an idea.

good idea on pulling it out and seeing if the button is worn inside.
