howdy folks, i'm new to this site and so far it has been really helpful! Ive got a 96 bronco with 351 and pushbutton 4x4. When i put it in 4wheel the transfer case engages but the front wheels don't lock in. Is it just the hubs? if one hub goes out, will neither tire spin or do you think that both hubs are out? Or could it be something else? By the way it is auto hubs. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If one hub goes neither tire will spin because it will always spin the easiest tire. Which obviously would be the one thats not hooked up. Now would be a good time to upgrade to manual hubs.

Yardape hit it right on the head, rather than try to repair or replace your auto locking hubs, go with the manuals. They are much more reliable (fewer moving parts) and cost way less. New autolocking hubs cost around $300 as apposed to about $90 for a set of Warn Premium manual hubs. Of course that will mean you may have to get out and dirty up your shoes to lock them in.

By the way, welcome to BroncoZone. Post some pictures of your ride if you have them. We love to look at each others trucks.

I had the same problem on my 96 bronco as well. I went ahead and replaced the auto hubs with manuals like the other guys on this site sugguested and all my problems have been fixed. Just don't start the disassembly without the conversion kit in hand. You should be able to get it at the same place you get your hubs.

you only need the conversion kit if you have three bolts holding the hub cover on, if theres five your good to go

Yea i forgot about that, but you should need it anyways since the 96 bronco autohubs only have 3 screws

My 93 is the 5 ***** pattern and I believe the 96 is the same. It is easy to just look at them and we are just talking about the outside screws on the hub.

Get rid of the Auto hubs. They have plastic insides and have heard that reverse really kills them. I suggest Warn premium since they are all metal insides.

How hard is it to put manual hubs in? Are you serious that it is just a few screws and some grease or is there something I am missing? I would love to put some manuals on.

Very easy to do, just a couple clips and a few allen head bolts. If you are unlucky and have 3 bolts holding your hub covers in place then you need a conversion kit, which is just a cuople washers and a spanner nut. (I think thats what its called) if you have 5 allen head bolts holding it in place your laughing, just need the new hubs. Get the warn premiums if you can swing it, well worth the extra couple bucks
