all, my name is Rick and I'm from sunny (hot as all get out) Orlando Florida. I'm an 8th generation Floridian, yep one of those RARE breeds. Well I got an itch lately to find a new mud toy and the day I decided to go looking I was approached by a co-worker who said they were moving to NV and her boyfriend wanted to know if I wanted his 1984 Ford Fullsize Bronco XLT. It took about 3 seconds to see this gift from above and I jumped on it, but for a running Bronco $400.00 was an unbeatable deal. So here is the beast's info:

Stock height

351 Windsor 4bl (160,000K miles)

15,000K on the rebuild drive train (according to the old owner)

Rear glass works great

Driver's Window won't go up on it's own needs help

Power everything works

Interior about a C+ to B- condition

Good tires

Small exhaust leak up near the manifold

Stock engine everything

A/C dead for now

All lights work (stumped at that one)

That covers the basics. The body has a few rust issues but the underbody and frame are very clean. It cranks good (manual choke that must leave soon) and runs great on the dirt or highway. So far everything checks out after a replacement of the Power Steering Pump (42.00). I had to replace the windshield (it had about 14 cracks) to the tune of $216.00.

So far my new money pit toy has only set me back about $658.00 $-) but that could be much worse. As it stands I am in love with my new toy  and look forward to the next several years of playing.

WHAT I NEED TO FIND

I am looking for :

1. An interior roll bar for the rear area

2. Headers for the 351 Windsor

3. Recommendations on a new carb (4bl roughly 670)

4. Suggestions for a new steering wheel that will be big enough to feel comfortable.

Any help is welcome so throw them this way guys/gals. And if your in the area shoot me a line, I'm wanting to take the big boy offroad to play soon.

Welcome to Bronco Zone!!! Jeff's Bronco Graveyard can help you on the interior roll bar as well as most other Bronco parts. I'd recommend either an Edelbrock 1400 series 600cfm (the 1406 is electric choke) or the Holley Truck Avenger 670cfm. Good luck and drive safe, JSM84

Thanks for the welcome man, I found the Bronco Graveyard and one of the things I was looking for was interior roll bars. I saw a set, I thought on the BGY, but when I went back they don't list any for my truck. I don't know what happened.

Thanks for the advice on the carbs, I saw the Holley but did not know about the Edelbrock. Thanks for the info, I will look them up.

No, i haven't been 4 wheeling that long myself so i don't know of any groups yet, although if your up to it you should go to mud fest out in Okeechobee (just don't run the bad stuff, ive seen swamp buggies sink out there). Also go to www.stroid.com and they have an events page, there are some pretty sweet pics as well.

Around here in Jupiter we just ussually go out to Corbit (A park off indiantown and Bee Line), its good because its got a great variety of trails. From the insane to the ones you can complete in a stock truck.

I've seen some of the swamp buggy runs you dudes have out there in FL, even the swamp buggy queen deal.

Anyway, check out www.2bigbroncos.org for a local club near you.
